Sanskrit Verse:

असतो मा सद्गमय ।
तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय ।
मृत्योर्मामृतं गमय ।।

Transliterated Verse:

asato ma sad gamaya
tamaso ma jyotir gamaya
mrtyor mamrtam gamaya

Translation in Hindi:

हे ईश्वर! मुझे कुमार्ग से सन्मार्ग की और ले जाएँ! अज्ञान रूपी अंधकार से ज्ञानरूपी प्रकाश की और ले जाएँ! मृत्यु से अमरता की और ले जाएँ!

Translation in English:

From falsehood lead me to truth
From darkness of ignorance lead me to light of knowledge
From death lead me to immortality.

महामृत्युन्जय मंत्र

महामृत्युन्जय मंत्र 

Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is one among the finest Mantra's in Indian Mythology and Spirituality belongs to Lord Shiva.It is a combination of three hindi language words i.e. "Maha" which means Great , "Mrityun" means Death and "Jaya" means Victory which turns into Conquer or victory over death. 

त्रयम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् ।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् म्रुत्योर्मुक्षिय मामृतात् ॥

Om Trayambakam Yajamahe, Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam,Urvarukmiv Bandhanat, Mrityurmokshaya Mamratat.



Sanskrit to English Meaning of Mantra:

Tri-ambaka-m : One who has three eyes. Lord Shiva is the only one who have it.

Yaja-mahe: One who is prayed or worshiped.

Sugandhi-m: Good Smell.

Pushti-vardhana-m: One who makes happy, prosperous, gives peace of mind and takes care about you.

Urvaruka-m: Disease, attachment, obstacles in life and resulting depression

iva: Like
Bandhanat: Associated or bonding.

Mrityur: From Death.

Mokshaya: Liberate us or send us heaven.

Ma: Not

Amritat: Realization of Immortality.

Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra Translation in English

“OM. We worship and adore you, O three-eyed one, O Shiva. You are sweet gladness, the fragrance of life, who nourishes us, restores our health, and causes us to thrive. As, in due time, the stem of the cucumber weakens, and the gourd is freed from the vine, so free us from attachment and death, and do not withhold immortality.” 

Brief explanation

We concentrate on our third eye which lies behind the two eyes and this gives us the power to feel you and by this we feel happy,satisfied and peace in life. We know immortality is not possible but some extension can be given to our death by your powers Lord Shiva.

Sanskrit to English Word Meaning:
Saha- both; nau-us; avatu- may he protect; bhunaktu-may he nourish; viryam karavavahai-may we acquire the capacity; tejasvi-be brilliant; nau-for us; adhitam- what is studied; astu-let it be; ma vidvisavahai-may we not argue with each other.

Translation:
May He protect both of us. May He nourish both of us. May we both acquire the capacity (to study and understand the scriptures). May our study be brilliant. May we not argue with each other. Om peace, peace, peace.

Brief explanation:
At the beginning of a class, the teacher and students generally recite this peace invocation together. Both seek the Lord’s blessings for study that is free of obstacles, such as poor memory, or the inability to concentrate or poor health. They also seek blessings for a conducive relationship, without which communication of any subject matter is difficult. Therefore, this prayer is important for both the teacher and the student.
